Childcare

The Childcare Affordability Programme (CAP)

The CAP will provide support to parents, children and childcare providers across participating London's boroughs. It was formed in 2005 as part of a 3 year funding package with the London Development Agency (LDA) and Sure Start.

The London Childcare Strategy: Working towards affordable good quality childcare for all

High childcare costs in London, coupled with the high costs of housing are the barriers stopping thousands of parents entering paid employment and training. The LDA has committed to investing over £4 million to help deliver the Mayor's London Childcare Strategy, launched in November 2003.

The Strategy is designed to increase the availability of quality, affordable, accessible childcare to meet the needs of London's families, regardless of their income or employment status. It also aims to support London's economic growth, enabling families to escape poverty and share in London's success now and in the future.

We have a dedicated childcare team who are working with the London boroughs and other key partners to ensure that the childcare needs of London's growing population are met.

If you are a parent/carer seeking further information regarding the Childcare Affordability Programme, you can access support with childcare by contacting your local Family Information Service at your local authority.
