Places and infrastructure overview

It is vital that London's growth is managed and developed in a sustainable, appropriate way.

We are guided by the Mayor's London Plan, which maps out an infrastructure for future development, supports the development of an adequate supply of commercial property and affordable housing, and promotes a healthy, sustainable, high-quality urban environment.

Supporting the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

A key element of our future focus is on the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the wider efforts that will act as a catalyst to regenerate East London.

We aim to ensure that the Olympic legacy will create lasting residential and business benefits for the Lower Lea and the rest of London.

In addition, our review of Area Programmes will build on our work to target disadvantaged groups so that all London communities benefit from the wealth that is created.

Developing other key regeneration sites

We will continue our strategic role, brokerage and land development responsibility in the Thames Gateway, the London section of the London-Stansted-Cambridge-Peterborough Growth Area, and other priority areas for regeneration.

Working with partner organisations, including our sub-regional partners and Local Authorities, we will continue to ensure that regeneration opportunities create real benefits for London.

Promoting sustainable housing

In our work to make London a healthy and sustainable city, we will increase our investment in exemplar low and zero carbon, climate-resilient and affordable developments.

Our zero carbon development at Gallions Park in the Thames Gateway area is one example that demonstrates an innovative approach to modern construction. These types of initiative will help stimulate investment and raise standards in the sector.

In addition, we will strengthen our role in the delivery of London's housing needs, investigate ways to accelerate the development of brownfield land and promote innovation through the work of the London Climate Change Agency.

By managing Design for London on behalf of the GLA Group, we will promote high quality, sustainable and accessible design across London.
