DfES

The Department for Education and Skills (DfES) is a government department, created in 2001, responsible for the education system and children's services in England. Its role has been incorporated into the newly created Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS) from 28 June 2007.

This Department brings together functions from the former Department of Trade and Industry, including responsibilities for science and innovation, with further and higher education and skills, previously part of the Department for Education and Skills.
