London Skills Commission

The London Skills Commission was London's Regional Skills Partnership. It was tasked with bringing together the main planning, funding and delivery organisations with a focus on skills and business support. It worked on behalf of London's employers and communities to build a healthy labour market accessible to all.

Led by the London Development Agency and the London Learning and Skills Councils, The London Skills Commission set out the following shared vision for the capital:

A labour force that strengthens London's position as a sustainable world city

The London Skills Commission in achieving its vision and delivering the Mayor's Economic Development Strategy, delivers to the following twin aims:

  1. Increasing inclusion through investing in London's future workforce
  2. Increasing productivity through investing in London's current workforce.

By working together and targeting agreed priorities the commission aimed to get even more people into jobs, enable more businesses to prosper and ensure that more communities have access to the opportunities arising from a successful economy. The Commission acted as the Regional Skills Partnership for the capital and was tasked with shaping London's response to the National Skills Strategy White Paper - www.dfes.gov.uk/publications/skillsgettingon/.

2005/2006 regional skills action plan

Informed by the breadth of activities and priorities initially developed through the London FRESA, the London Skills Commission has produced a 2005/2006 regional Action Plan (PDF) and Prospectus (PDF). These provide a clear framework covering the breadth of activities and organisations operating across the capital. They will ensure that by effectively targeting resources against 8 regional priorities we will change and improve delivery, and in the future mould the case for resources or change.
