Health

The London Development Agency (LDA) invests about £8m a year in a wide range of health-related activities to maximise improvements in the health of Londoners and to support the health sector.

While health and social services make a contribution to health, most of the key determinants of health lie outside the direct influence of the health and social care sector.

These factors include education, employment, housing, green space and the environment. We contribute to improving the health of Londoners primarily by tackling unemployment through our Opportunities Fund and by building health goals into our development activities.

We are also developing an Active Workplace programme to help businesses address the challenge of improving health in the workplace.

In order to support the health sector, we aim to:

  • embed health in the mainstream of all our activities, including those relating to physical regeneration
  • strengthen our capacity to contribute to emerging public health policies and work more closely with London's health sector organisations
  • maximise the local health legacy of a successful 2012 Olympic bid

Additionally, the LDA is a partner in the NHS London Healthy Urban Development Unit, supports London's strong Life Sciences industry and leads on health for England's Regional Development Agencies.
