To ensure that we consult and engage with people effectively, we saw a need to define and publish our own code of practice for consultation. We ran a consultation for 12 weeks from 31 October 2007 to 23 January 2008.
We would like to thank you for your comments and feedback on the code. These will now be reviewd to help inform the final Code of Consultation.
The code will enable us and those who represent us to work to a common set of principles and guidelines for involving people in the development of the London Games and their legacy.
The code aims to standardise consultation practice across our agencies and to set a benchmark for best practice.
The Code of Consultation outlines the overarching principles of stakeholder consultation and involvement for the LDA and ODA and defines different terms such as consultation, communication, involvement and engagement.
It also provides a process for planning a consultation programme, explaining how data should be analysed and fed into decision-making, and how it should be reported and presented. Specific commitments to equality and diversity and standards for accessibility are also outlined.
We are asking for your views on the code's usability in practice to help us ensure that the final Code of Conduct is easy to read and apply.
So far it has already been reviewed by the Greater London Authority, the London Development Agency, The Olympic Delivery Authority, The Government Olympic Executive, Department of Culture Media and Sport, the Department of Communities and Local Government, the five host Boroughs as well as local stakeholders and community representatives.
Suggestions from these sources informed the code's development into the public draft which is now being consulted on.
