Listening to parents of children with disabilities and special educational needs

The London Development Agency (LDA) plays a key role in delivering the Mayor's London Childcare Strategy and has devoted resources for childcare in their investment programme.

Quality childcare is good for all children and families. It can be particularly important for disabled children and children with special educational needs, and it may reduce the need for special educational needs intervention later on.

Often disabled children don't have as many opportunities to play with their peers, and can feel very isolated.

Acknowledging the importance of parents views on this subject, the LDA commissioned Daycare Trust to explore the experiences of and needs for childcare among families with disabled children living in London – 'Listening to parents of children with disabilities and special educational needs'.

This report builds on the Daycare Trust's on-going project called 'Listening to Families'.
