How to apply

The Application Form

Applications forms are considered for shortlisting on the basis of the skills, experience and qualifications set out in the Person Specification for the post.

The Role profile identifies the key result areas for the post; the performance indicators that will be used to monitor individual performance and a brief description of the role and reporting structure.

The application form is a key part of the selection process. Throughout the selection process we will look for examples and evidence of how you meet the selection criteria. It's important that you take time to address these in your application form. We cannot make assumptions about your achievements and abilities, so it is vital that you make it clear on the application form how you feel you match our requirements.

Please note that for the majority of vacancies an application form must be completed. For some specialist posts we will accept a CV in response only if stated in the advertisement.

We will make reasonable adjustments to the selection arrangements. They are accepting applications by Curriculum vitae (CV), to accommodate a disabled applicant who would otherwise be unable to apply. Please contact HR at the LDA (see below - Completing the application form) if you want to discuss the arrangements for submitting your application.

Completing the application form

Please complete the form clearly. Use black ink or bold typescript, the form may be photocopied. You must mark the top of the form with the name and reference number of the post you are applying for.

If you have a disability that makes writing difficult or impossible, you can apply in a different way. Please contact an HR Adviser who will be able to talk about this with you.

If your contact details change at any time during the selection process, you must notify us as soon as possible. Please do let us know how we can contact you?

When you complete the sections on your further education, training and employment history, make sure the dates are correct and are in the right order with the most recent dates first.

Read the role profile and person specification carefully, this will help you complete your application form. You can also use experiences and knowledge gained from voluntary work, leisure interests and any other activities you consider relevant to the position.

The LDA operates a strict policy on the return of application forms. All forms must be returned within the time limit and date specified on the advertisement to:

If you are invited to attend the next stage of the selection process and require any adjustments to be made to the interview arrangements, you must notify us by providing details on the Recruitment Monitoring Form. You must give the names of two previous employers who can act as a referee. One of these must be your present or most recent employer. Please do not provide the names of friends or relatives as referees. We must have references that cover a minimum of 5 years. Where a candidate has not worked for 5 years a personal reference or a reference from an educational institution may be acceptable. Health Checks

All job offers are subject to satisfactory medical clearance. If you are successful at interview, we will ask you to complete a confidential Health Declaration Form. This form will be assessed by our Occupational Health Medical Advisor. Sometimes it may be necessary for an individual to be assessed by the Occupational Health Nurse or Doctor prior to commencement of employment to ensure that they are fit for employment and to advise on any work adjustments that are required.
